English National 8-Ball Pool Tour Finals – Live Streaming

We have our first live stream of 2012 this coming weekend with the culmination of the EBPF National Tour. All of the qualifiers from the regional tours come together for the tour finals in Leicester.

There will be some very high quality pool to watch across the two days with players including 2011 Singles Champion Adam Brown, 2011 BAPTO Champion Shane Thompson, Former World Champion Andy Lucas and of course Sarah Trudgett in the ladies event.

Our coverage kicks off at 12 noon on Saturday 18th Feb with the Senior’s and Junior singles events.

On Sunday 19th February we have action once again from 12 noon this time in the men’s and ladies event.

The event is only £3.00 on PPV and you can buy it here: EBPF National Tour Finals

6 Great Places to Watch Live Pool (When we’re not streaming)

There are a number of great people out on the web providing some really good quality live streaming, you may have seen some of them but I hope that some are new to you. However, you are only allowed to watch them when Cuesport TV are not live streaming!

I have not ranked them in order of preference, the list is simply there to make it easier to read:

  1. InsidePool.TV – probably the best pool/billiards magazine on the market, they have been involved with live streaming for a number of years now, they make use of both the Youtube and UStream platforms which makes access very easy.
  2. TheActionReport – They have been doing this since 2007 (about the same amount of time as us!) and the quality has just got better and better over the years, expect multiple camera angles, live commentary, interviews and also a live podcast now as well. Probably the one website that most ‘streamers’ aspire to.
  3. Pool Action TV – Operated by Ray ‘BigTruck’ Hansen PoolActionTV have done a number of differing productions over the last 2 years. Along with regular coverage of Pro/Am events they have also covered the Ultimate 10-Ball Championships and a number of money matches.
  4. OTBNTV -On The Break News operate a number of smaller pool magazines and also got invloved with the live streaming of tournaments from their area a while back. Again utilising the Ustream platform to provide live and VOD coverage.
  5. MaxLeePool – It is great to see someone else trying to push the UK game forward and this site provides live streaming as well as a tour that they operate up in Scotland, great if you are a fan of Blackball or the UK 8-Ball game.
  6. OnTheRail TV – Established in 2008 (07/08 almost seems to be the birth of live streamed pool!) they create high quality match-ups and stream pro-am tournaments from the Arizona region of the US. Many top names have featured including Efren Reyes, Earl Strickland and Darren Appleton with One Pocket seeming to be a speciality.

This is just a small list of live streaming resources, please send me links to other live streaming websites/companies/profiles on the web and I will try and update this list over time. If I have made any glaring errors then please let me know.

Two Upcoming Live Events

The end of November is our next foray into live web streams for your pleasure.

The first is on the 19th/20th November and is live coverage from the last leg of 2011 GB9 Ball Tour, the event is named the British Grand Prix but will still take place in Daventry.

There is a whisper that the GB9 Main event first prize will increase to £2000.00 next year but nothing as yet has been confirmed. This event though will be fierce as players like Jayson Shaw, Imran Majid, Daryl Peach, Craig Osborne and Chris Melling are all still in with a shout of gaining the coveted top spot on the rankings.

The GB9 Ball Tour pays out £500 bonus to the number 1 ranked player at the end of the year and a further £250 bonus to the player ranked number 2.

Our second event in November is the return of the Welsh 8-Ball Festival to your screens, we first covered this event back in 2009 but missed it last year due to prior commitments.

It will be great to be back as this really is a fantastic event held at Trecco Bay Holiday Park. There will be around 200 players converging on the venue across the five days and Cuesport TV will be on hand to cover the last 3 days. This will mean coverage from the Men’s and Women’s singles, the team event and the Junior finals.

Five Days Until Next Live 9-ball

It is now only 5 days away from the next live 9-ball action, Money Match TV 13, an event that features Arfan Dad v Matt Lawrenson as it’s headline match.

The two ‘headline’ players faced-off in the final of the British Amateur Championships on Sunday with Arfan Dad running out the 21-12 winner on the same table that will be used for the Money Match on Saturday.

This will undoubtedly give him the edge going into this hotly anticipated match. Arfan commented on his Facebook feed that he, “just won the british amateur 9 ball championships, played awesome in the final to beat Matt Lawrenson 21-12. Good confidence booster going into our mmtv match on Saturday.”

Now is a good time to sign-up for this match, Matt is going to be desperate for revenge but with the added pressure of playing for his own money, you cannot miss this edition of Money Match TV.

The event will be run on Pay-Per-View and it costs only £3.99 for a full days action, Buy Money Match TV 13.

Our system is secured using 128-bit SSL and uses PayPal for all transactions. Any issues with the payment please let us know and we deal with it as soon as we can.

TV Match Schedule:

11am – Lee Rigby v Craig Waddingham

2:30pm – Phil Newman v Jamie Yates

6pm – Arfan Dad v Matt Lawrenson

Plus you will get live score updates from the second table within the live stream. Please join us for this event.

Things Look Positive

This weekend we had our first go on the new live platform that we are rolling out properly over the next few weeks.

First impressions seem very good with 1676 unique viewers tuning in across the weekend, with around 200 viewers watching at any one time. This figure was pretty much generated through social media marketing and our current users, but what is most important is that viewers did not seem bothered by the need to register in order to view the streaming.

This bodes well as quite simply we will need to start charging for live events in order for the website to continue and that registration form is integral.

The rollout of the PPV system has been delayed (hence GB9 was available for free) and there are now further barriers to rolling it out exactly as we would like, so in terms of a date for the PPV launch we are unsure due to issues with payment providers.

In order for us to get this right feedback is always welcome, some has been provided already on the Cuesport TV Facebook Page and this is as good a place as any to get in touch with us. We are particularly interested in how you found the registration process and any comments regarding the actual live streaming itself.

One thing I will mention is the quality of the broadband we had on site, this is something that needs to be looked into as it kept dropping out and became very slow on Sunday leading to a less-than-perfect service. We are due for 4 further events at this venue in 2011 so whether we look to provide our own service or look to the hotel to help with improving it we are not sure.

Anyway, good weekend had by all involved, please provide constructive feedback as it does help!

Full Length Match Videos in HD

Back last year we trialled some HD streaming using our platform and the results were very nice. The response to the videos was also excellent. It always was the plan to complete full length matches in high definition.

Due to the nature of the web and the fact that people are generally watching on a smaller screen to their TV we have opted to rollout out the full length videos in 720p high definition.

The data rates of streaming a HD video mean a download speed of around 4meg is required to watch the videos without buffering.

The first of these full length matches is now available and is the first round match (Chris Melling v James Kay) at the GB9 British Grand Prix Pro Cup event last year. Please do tell us if we are wrong but we also think that this is a web first. Cuesport TV has become the first streaming channel to provide a full length 9-ball pool match in high definition.

The rest of this tournamnt, a further four matches, will also be HD encoded.

For those viewers that struggle to watch the HD versions due to low bandwidth then a standard version is also available for viewing.

Please let us know your thoughts on the videos and if you experience any problems. The best way to find out if you can view them without buffering is to run a speedtest.

We Can’t Reach Every Event

In an ideal world Cuesport TV would be at every event throughout the UK to report on tournaments and the latest breaking news stories.

Unfortunately that is impossible for a small company. We have to take time away from tournaments sometimes so that we can catch up with editing and the many other tasks related to running the channel.

So, I have a plan!

If you are at a pool or snooker tournament and just happe to shoot some video you can send it to us and we will host it and broadcast it to the world. If it is good enough quality then we can even add score graphics and titles – you will always be credited with the work so don’t worry.

£50,000 Pool Series Returns…

PRESS RELEASE – MAY 5TH 2009:

£50,000 Pool Series Returns

The richest 8-ball pool tour on the UK and Irish calendars returns this weekend (8th-10th May) with event two of the 2008-09 CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series. This time the event is being held in the amazing Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Dublin, Ireland.

As the pinnacle of the Blackball pool game, these tournaments each carry a guaranteed £10,000 in prize money with the winner of each leg receiving £3,500. Simon Ward was the winner of event one, way back in October last year, when he defeated fellow Welshman Craig Marsh to win the top prize.

The Welsh players including former EBA World Champion Ben Davies, British Open Champion Tom Cousins as well as the aforementioned Simon Ward and Craig Marsh will be in attendance and as always will be tough to beat.

Another player looking to add to his list of titles is the 2009 EBA World Champion, Scott Ross. Scotsman, Ross lifted the World title in April this year and will be confident of gaining another accolade on the Blackball circuit.

CueSport TV will once again be showing all of the action from the final two days live and exclusive at www.CueSport.tv – it is completely free to view and to do so simply hit the Live Event link on the left hand side of the website.

Watch all of the action on the 9th and 10th May 2009 only on CueSport TV.

About Blackball:

Blackball is a fast-paced and very attacking 8-ball pool game and the CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series is the ‘pro-tour’ for Blackball players.

Blackball is the only ‘small-ball’ 8-ball game to be recognised by the World Pool Association and in turn the International Olympic Committee. Played on a 7ft x 3.5ft table with slow napped cloth, 2-inch balls and tight ‘snooker-like’ pockets. It really is a test of cueing ability and strategy.
