Dusting Off My Stick!

I haven’t played in a tournament since the Bournemouth Open 9-ball event back in November 2008. However, this weekend I ma off to Mickey Flynn’s in Cambridge (weather permitting) and will be competing in their first open 10-ball event of the season.

On this occasion I am able to mix leisure with work as I will also be getting some news content and video interviews with some of the players taking part.

The field, as ever at Mickey Flynn’s, is going to be a tough one. Raj Hundal, Imran Majid, Rico Diks and Tony Drago are all competing along with a lot of other talented players including Matt Ford, Ricardo Jones, Mickey Lambert (clubs owner) and Anthony Ginn.

The tournamnt at Mickey Flynn’s are legendary and the club is one of the finest in the UK, not the largest on any accounts, but well maintained tables and a good bar.

I am not sure whether I will be able to play all of the tournament this year but we will see, CueSport TV are hoping to broadcast live from the club later in the year, the problem at the present time is a lack of space so it means we are back to news clips only.

I don’t hold my breath in terms of my performance but with a double-eliminator at least I get two matches for my money! I think my target is to win at least one match, after that would be a bonus, this of course can depend on my draw and my ability to break, which has been lacking recently.

Watch out for the news item on CueSport TV next week. I have Raj Hundal down to win this one!

Giving my Cue Arm a Work out.

I played pool on Friday night for the first time since November.

It was great!

I operate my own business (a young business) and I rarely get time to do the things I enjoy, perhaps I should try scheduling the time, everyone needs a bit of downtime.

Anyway, going back to Friday, it wasn’t great pool and things were a little rusty but all the same it was enjoyable. I was playing 9-ball with a few friends, one of which is lucky enough to have a 9ft pool table in his house.

It was great, because they were all used to playing UK pool on the smaller tables so I was able to introduce them to the game of 9-ball and the nuances that go with the game. For me it was a great feeling to let off a bit of steam have a bit of a laugh and play some pool.

Sometimes with players who are of a lesser ability it can be a struggle and waiting around for your turn can become a little tiresome. Not on this occasion! We played scotch doubles which meant a lot of table time and conversation about what shots to play and where to leave the cue ball.

If you haven’t played scotch doubles then I suggest you have a game to break up what you usually do, alternate shots makes it very interesting and friendships can be made, or perhaps lost dependant on your positional play.

I got the buzz again and now want to play more than ever so I will try and get a game in at least once per week, just to give my cueing arm a work out.
