Buxton and Back again

Great weekend!

What an awesome job the GB 9-ball Tour have done in putting together this years tour. The hotel was very nice, the tables are fantastic and everything went very well indeed.

Speaking with Jonathan Mathers the tour Chairperson he indicated there were a few teething problems, but I think with any new projects that is always going to be the case, we didn’t actually see any.

I did not hear one single complaint from any of the players at this event, usually there are massive rumblings about the quality of this or that. On this occasion I think everyone involved in the tour can be very proud of what they have achieved.

From my point of view it was also an historic weekend. Buxton was the first time that Cuesport TV have been able to broadcast live from the GB 9-ball Tour, and on first reflextion it seems that the viewers liked it as well.

We had one problem during the final when the stream dropped out, this was partly due to only being able to use a wireless connection and also because the processor in the computer got seriously hot.

In this regard we need to find a solution to the PC issues we have had recently, it is no longer powerful enough to do what we ask of it without problems.

I was also disappointed that we were unable to provide live commentary, this was for very practical reasons though. Our cameras and technical desk were very close to the action, couple this with a very quiet room and commentary would have put the players right off. We will be looking into this for the next event in Blackpool.

Videos from the event will be available later this week, as well as our ‘Diary-Cam’ video that we shot throughout the weekend. So please look out for them.

Eurotour Italy Open

The Eurotour returns to action today for the Italian Open from Castel Volturno. Many of our top British players are in action including Darren Appleton, Imran Majid, Karl Boyes and Daryl Peach.

What I wanted to mention though was that the Eurotour are once again providing a live stream of the main match table. You are now required to login to be able to view the stream, however, I will point out that the login page is not secure. Name, Address and Phone number are required alongside email address, why I don’t know. Surely name and email address would have sufficed. I just hope they don’t start spamming me with loads of rubbish I am not interested in.

You can be creative however if you don’t want to pass on your full details, for example, a full zip code is not required.

That said the actual quality of the stream is good, at times I am getting buffering so they could have a bandwidth issue on site as I can’t imagine that my 6.5meg download is too little. It is live all weekend, however, I believe you are not able to watch the final due to a Eurosport contract.

There will be some great matches coming up over the course of the next three days so stay tuned, one thing to make it more user-friendly would be commentary, at the moment this is not available. I suppose multi-languages watching could be the problem.

Eurotour French Open Concludes Today

I meant to mention this event earlier in the week but it slipped my mind.

The Eurotour returns for its first event of the 2009 season, the French Open. This 9-ball tour is the largest in Europe and a myriad of World Champions and major tournament winners compete on a regular basis.

Today see’s the last 32 stages after two days of tough double elimination competition.

Eurotour stalwarts, Mark Gray, Daryl Peach, Imran Majid, Ralf Souquet and Niels Feijen have all reached the important stages with a couple of surprises as well, Scott Higgins and Fraser Patrick (both British) have reached the last 32 stage with Higgins already into the last 16.
