GB9 Southern Masters: Live on Cuesport TV 29th-30th September

Just 18 days now until the GB 9 Ball Tour returns to your laptop and PC screens. The fourth event on this years tour is the Southern Masters that was won by Kevin Uzzell in bizarre fashion in 2011, also a return to the 9-ball discipline for the tour.

This is by no means taking anything away from Kevin who played brilliantly all weekend and was fully deserving of his first GB9 main event title. However, the weirdness came about from Jayson Shaw conceding racks with at most 5 balls remaining on the table. Lets hope we don’t see a repeat this year.

The majority of the top names in the UK will be in attendance including Daryl Peach, Karl Boyes, Imran Majid and Chris Melling. You can watch the action yourself live from 10:15am on Saturday 29th September on Cuesport TV: Buy the Live Stream in Advance for £2.95 – reverts to £4.95 on the 27th September.

However, if you are a reader of this blog then you can get a further £1.50 off this price by entering this code: c2af9d into the shopping cart when prompted. This means you will pay either £1.45 or £3.45 for the whole weekend depending on when you purchase.

The live stream is now served over a much higher quality Internet connection and is streamed at around 1250kbps, you will need a download speed of 2meg in order to view without interruptions.

Raj ‘Hitman’ Hundal Faces Tough Test

June 20th 2009 will see the very much anticipated £1000 per-man 10 ball challenge between Raj ‘Hitman’ Hundal and Ricardo ‘Indiana’ Jones.

Raj Hundal, the 2005 World Pool Masters Champion and regular on the International tournament scene, is rarely seen playing in one-on-one challenge matches. A player that is flamboyant and exciting and believes in hitting the break hard will come up against a UK based player he has known for over 10 years.

Ricardo ‘Indiana’ Jones is the house-pro at top Cambridge pool venue Mickey Flynn’s and is regularly seen playing challenge matches against some of Europe’s top players. Most recently Ricardo lost a very tight match against Dutchman Alex Lely. This particular money match went hill-hill. Jones, who has also represented the UK in the World Pool Championships in the past is probably regarded as the underdog on paper.

Jones recently commented “…alot of practice is required because I know I’m gonna have to produce a near fautless display to win…I, like him [Raj Hundal] consider myself part of the old-skool, the way American Pool used to be played with powerful breaks and great shot making.”

It is going to be an absolutely cracking match and Ricardo Jones is not a player to be underestimated and Raj will have to work hard if he is to win the match. There is due to be a return match and this is already pencilled in for Hounslow, the home of Raj Hundal, but lets get this one out of the way first.

The match is being played for £1000-per-man and starts at 7pm (UK time) it is a race-to-25 that is expected to go close to the wire – the match is being shown live on pay-per-view by WebTV channel Cuesport TV. You can purchase the match from just £2.95 ($4.75) which will allow you 24 hour access to the channels subscription service.

O’Sullivan First Man into Round Two

Ronnie O’Sullivan is the first man through to the second round of the 2009 BetFred.com World Snooker Championships. The defending champion served up some brilliant snooker en route to a 10-5 victory over Stuart Bingham.

Amongst the balls both players looked very solid with O’Sullivan notching up 3 centuries, the pinnacle a 140 and Bingham picking up one himself. There were a further 8 breaks over 50 in a match of some very quality break building.

The biggest shock was O’Sullivans ability at distance – at one point his long pot success rate was as low as 35% – this allowed Bingham to get into the balls on two back-to-back occasions, something he took gleefully knocking in 100 and 97 breaks.

The rest of todays scores:

  • Hendry 4 v 5 Williams
  • Dott 4 v 5 Hawkins
  • King 3 v 3 McLeod
  • Carter 3 v 1 Greene (as I type, still playing first session)

World Snooker Championships Live Today

It’s the big one, The 2009 BetFred World Snooker Championships starts today from the legendary Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. (A Theatre that has incidentally had a refurbishment this year.)

The action starts live today from 10.00am (BST) – in about 20 minutes actually – you can watch it on BBC Interactive, Eurosport, Eurosport web player, BBC Online and BBC 2 (some coverage will be on BBC 1).

Today’s matches are the following:

10.00

  • Ronnie O’Sullivan (Eng) v Stuart Bingham (Eng)
  • Mark King (Eng) v Rory McLeod (Eng)

14.30

  • Graeme Dott (Sco) v Barry Hawkins (Eng)
  • Stephen Hendry (Sco) v Mark Williams (Wal)

19.00

  • Ronnie O’Sullivan v Stuart Bingham (Eng)
  • Ali Carter (Eng) v Gerard Greene (NI)

As always the reigning champion starts the defence of his title with the first match on. Bingham should not pose too much of a threat to Ronnie over the longer distance, that match actually concludes with the second session this evening.

Of the afternoon session, the one I will be watching will be two former world champions, Stephen Hendry (who underwent a resurgence in China recently) and a man who has performed well all season, breaking back into the top 16, Mark Williams. This should be a real cracker and I fancy Mark Williams as an outisde chance for this title.

King v McLeod and Dott v Hawkins in my opinion will be very close, they finish tomorrow. Ali Carter, who was predicted as a possible winner by Peter Ebdon this week has a reasonably easy start (again in my opinion) against Irishmen Gerard Greene.

So the action comes thick and fast over the next two weeks, I will make an update everyday so stay tuned or subscribe via RSS.
