Schmidt Wins DCC One Pocket Division

January 31st, 2009

Renowned mostly for his 9-ball and Straight Pool John Schmidt has beaten Scott Frost to lift the Derby City Classic One Pocket division 3-1.

The 9-ball division is drawing to a cose with 50 players still competing in round 7.

The straight pool event is down to the last four with some British interest still battling away, World 10-ball Champion Darren Appleton would play World Straight Pool Champion Thorsten Hohmann of Germany in the semi-finals and John Schmidt (told you his game was 14.1) playing Danny Harriman.

The final is at some point today but results are a bit sketchy due to the size of the event and the time difference.

Christmas and all that…

December 29th, 2008

I hope everyone had a good Christmas, especially cue sport related. I am sure a myriad of players have received new cues or a new case or the latest gadget.

If you are one of them and are reading this blog then please send me a post and let me know what you got and more importantly what you think of it!

For a little blogging celebration of Christmas I have dug outa video featuring John ‘Mr 400′ Schmidt.

For many of our British visitors and viewers Straight Pool will be a completely new ‘game’ - this discipline of pool was the championship game of choice until the 90’s when 9-ball took over and has been immortalised in the film ‘The Hustler’. The idea is to run as many balls as possible until reaching a set target (usually 150 balls in tournament play).

One of the most highly regarded straight pool players of current times is John ‘Mr 400′ Schmidt, who as his nickname suggests has run over 400 balls continuously. There is a video clip below of John in action at the Derby City Classic.
