Spaniard David Alcaide has beaten Britain’s Craig Osborne 9-2 to reach the final of the Eurotour Italian Open. I think the experience of Alcaide at this level probably told but Craig will have every reason to be proud of his performance. As stated in my previous blog post 2009 could well be Osborne’s breakthrough year.
In the other semi final, an all German encounter, once again the experience told as Ralf Souquet booked himself a third Eurotour final in the last five tournaments.
Souquet, the current number 1, obviously likes the Eurotour after beating Marko Vogel 9-7 to set-up the match with Alcaide.
If Souquet could have lifted the Italian Open it would have been his third win in five tournaments, a feat (I believe) that has never been achieved.
Well it is still yet to be achieved as David Alcaide lifted the title and the €5000 winners cheque with a 9-5 victory.
The win (by my calculations) will propel Alcaide into the top 8.
