Welcoming in 2012

First up I hope that everyone enjoyed their New Years celebrations, whether it was spent with family, friends, loved one’s or strangers I sincerely hope that you welcomed in the New Year in a positive way and that the handover is not too big!

2011 was a good year for Cuesport TV in many ways but by the same token there were a number of things that I felt needed improvement or a complete overhaul. I am going to try and look at the best and worst of what we achieved in the year in this post.

One of the biggest positives was the move to our new home, the new Cuesport TV ended up being delayed but I am happy with the look that the developers have managed to build. One of the other positives from a financial aspect was also the building of the live event pay-per-view system. I like the fact that is it easy to use but there are still some improvements that can and will be made.

I have also been pleased with the level of service we have managed to provide on the majority of our live events, those that have had problems have had it resolved or had a refund. At the same time the quality of the production has also been good with multi-camera shoots, live scoring and commentary at all events across the year.

Away from the actual video side of things I am also pleased with the Facebook page that we have for Cuesport TV now with over 2500 ‘members’ that comment and post quite regularly, this is something that I want to really develop in 2012 as it is a great way of getting awareness for our content. (Have to put a small note in for Twitter here as well, the other social network that I use frequently has also provided us with some very good interaction and love it or hate it it is here to stay.)

What can be improved?

Rather than go in depth I am simply going to write a list below, if you can think of anything else that we can do to improve then please post it in the comments:

- Greater Production quality of the live events

- Number and frequency of the live events

- More UK 8 Ball content as this drives us the most traffic

- Making videos available from the live events much quicker (we are sitting on some content from as far back as 2008)

- Search functionality on the website

- More users accessing live events (one of the ways that we can continue)

- More users accessing video on demand content more frequently, especially in the UK (The video adverts help to fund the business so the more that are viewed the better it is long-term.)

- New ways of monetising the video channel, with much more relevant advertising/sponsorship

- Creation/Promotion of our own series of events giving us full control

- Access to third party content

- Greater preparation for live events

This is just a short selection and if you have any burning ideas then please let us know.

Here is to a fantastic 2012 thanks for being with us in 2011!

Merry Christmas

Now, I realise it is a little early but we suffer from premature congratulation here at Cuesport TV!

In all seriousness though, I would like to wish all of our viewers and PPV customers a huge thank you and a massive Merry Christmas for the support you have shown us throughout 2011.

Roll on 2012 is all I can say!

Booking in Dates for 2012

As there are no live events booked in for December it is a good time to start trying to fill in the calendar for 2012.

One of the big changes is that we will no longer be covering the Money Match TV series, quite simply it has been a drain on resources and our coverage cannot be continued without the aid of a sponsor, something that is difficult to find.

2012 is going to see us cover more 8-ball as it does seem to appeal better to our audience, our most watched videos have all come from the 8-ball categories on the website. They are also the most widely watched live events so we need to stick to what appeals to our audience.

This is not to say that we won’t try and mix up the content a bit. We still plan on covering elements of the GB 9 Ball Tour and some one-off events but the majority of our focus will be on 8-ball and our video on demand service.

There is already a potential event for January which looks reasonably exciting, once confirmed I will post the details.

February looks quite busy with the return of the Jersey Festival (to be confirmed) and the UPC-BUCS 8-ball event from Yarmouth. The UPC event is one of my personal favourites in the year and had been on the calendar for over 6 months so it is with regret that we will not be able to cover the first GB 9 Ball Tour event of 2012 – unless we can find a secondary team.

March is looking likely that we will cover the English Blackball Championships for the first time and this will be followed up by coverage of the EBA Masters in Bridlington.

If you know of an event that could do with some coverage and may be worth a Cuesport TV visit please do let us know.

Meet ‘Share’

Since we moved to the flash video player back in the summer the ‘share’ functionality that was integral to what we wanted to achieve with Cuesport TV has been unavailable.

The developers finally scheduled in the time last week and sorted the problem out so today the Cuesport TV ‘Share’ function is officially released.

It is nothing new or groundbreaking in terms of the Internet as a whole but is pretty awesome for both us and you our fans and viewers.

You can click the share button to share a video directly to your Twitter feed or Facebook updates.

Once the ‘share’ screen pops up over your video it is paused and you have a further option (top right icon) to get the embed code.

You can then put any Cuesport TV video into your own website without having to host the video.

There is an example of the embed in action below:

The Cuesport TV 8 Ball Classic – First Details

For some time we have been looking into running an event or two specific to Cuesport TV that we have complete control over.

The first of these will be the Cuesport TV 8-ball Classic.

The event is penciled in for the 22nd/23rd October at the fantastic BreaknDish Pool Club in Street, Somerset.

It will feature eight top quality 8-ball pool players battling it out for a winner-take-all prize of £4000.00 (coming from the £500-per-man entry fee).

Every single match will be shown live online across the weekend with each being a best of 29 frame match, the final will be extended to best of 37 frames.

Once the 8 players are confirmed a live draw will take place on the Friday before the event (FA Cup style). This is to be as transparent as possible, in order to suit the venue some of the start times may be adjusted but the draw will remain the same.

So far we have had interest from the likes of Simon Ward, Rob Chilton, Craig Marsh, Tom Cousins and Oly Bale but it has to be made clear that none of these players have yet confirmed.

If you would be interested in taking part in this event then it will be first-some first-served so please send an email to Pete Williams on pete.williams (@) cuesport.tv or call 01305 826486.

Can Osborne March On?

August has been a very interesting month for Craig Osborne. The Ipswich based cueist has had his second Main Tour win on the GB 9 Ball Tour, against old adversary Imran Majid, in what proved to be a very thrilling final.

He then followed this up by winning an amazing match against Matt Lawrenson at Money Match TV 14 in front of a sizeable crowd that were firmly behind his opponent.

There is no doubt that at the present time Osborne is the U’s most in-form player, the win at the GB9 event moved him up to his highest ranking of Number 2, just 7 points behind Imran Majid.

The tour returns this weekend with the Southern Masters, with the events all being held in the same venues now Osborne surely has a big chance to repeat his win three weekends ago?

You can, as ever, watch the GB9 Tour live on Cuesport TV. It is priced at £2.49 in advance and will increase to £4.99 over the weekend. Buy your tickets here: GB9 Southern Masters 2011

On the Saturday we have action from the Pro Cup event that will be down on numbers as Chris Melling and Tony Drago will not be around.

Who is likely to win this event? Have your say below.

Five Days Until Next Live 9-ball

It is now only 5 days away from the next live 9-ball action, Money Match TV 13, an event that features Arfan Dad v Matt Lawrenson as it’s headline match.

The two ‘headline’ players faced-off in the final of the British Amateur Championships on Sunday with Arfan Dad running out the 21-12 winner on the same table that will be used for the Money Match on Saturday.

This will undoubtedly give him the edge going into this hotly anticipated match. Arfan commented on his Facebook feed that he, “just won the british amateur 9 ball championships, played awesome in the final to beat Matt Lawrenson 21-12. Good confidence booster going into our mmtv match on Saturday.”

Now is a good time to sign-up for this match, Matt is going to be desperate for revenge but with the added pressure of playing for his own money, you cannot miss this edition of Money Match TV.

The event will be run on Pay-Per-View and it costs only £3.99 for a full days action, Buy Money Match TV 13.

Our system is secured using 128-bit SSL and uses PayPal for all transactions. Any issues with the payment please let us know and we deal with it as soon as we can.

TV Match Schedule:

11am – Lee Rigby v Craig Waddingham

2:30pm – Phil Newman v Jamie Yates
