Jaspers Claims AGIPI Billiard Masters Title

Dick Jaspers has reversed the result in a repeat of last years AGIPI Billiards Masters final. Dutchman Jaspers, the current World Number 1, romped to victory with a 50-39 win over Sweden’s Torbjorn Blomdahl.

Blomdahl, last years winner, was quick out of the blocks and scored 4 points at his first visit. This soon got pegged back by Jaspers and made for a very close encounter. Blomdahl made the highest run of the match, 11 points, but even this was not enough to secure another title.

Although the margin of victory was 11 points, both players in their 19 innings averaged over 2 points per visit, astonishing, and certainly the best match of the entire tournament being saved for the final.

As a TV spectacle I am still unsure on 3-cushion, but it was refreshing to see something different.

Forthomme and Jaspers Reach the Semi Finals

World number 7 Roland Forthomme has reached the semi-finals of the AGIPI Billiard Masters after a tough and tense encounter with Jeremy Bury of France.

The Belgian carom star booked his place in the last four with a a very close 50-49 victory in a match that created a high run of 9 points and an average of 1.52. The biggest part was that both players were tied at 46-46 and it seemed to take an age before another point was scored, both players feeling the pressure of the occasion and the will to get over the line.

Joining Forthomme in the semi-finals is World Number 1 Dick Jaspers of Holland. He came through his match against Eddy Merckx 50-44 in a match that also had a 9 point high run and a slightly higher average of 1.92 from Jaspers.

Today see’s the second two 1/4 finals being shown live on Eurosport 2 from 17:00 UK time.
