I’m lost for words!
30 mins, 2 frames, Halpin could and should be 2 frames up . .
Hope it all settles down soon, speeds up a little and one of them shows some ability. I can only imagine how nerve-racking it is playing for £10k, but perhaps Kelly should have thought twice about wearing his old Pro t-shirt, coz the standard at the moment is amateur at best!
Ronnue did a 147 faster than John just cleared those up.
Nice work Pete – JK looks to be motoring now, cant see him losing this match at all. Halpin so fa has been largely unimpressive, although maybe he’s just settling in. John should settle first mind you; they’re his tables!!

Table looks really slow from here, Pete. Is that just an illusion, or is it really as slow as it looks? Could this be a Kelly ploy to slow the match down, as against a snooker player that could be an advantageous tactic?
Not the highest quality match thus far, but money matches rarely are. Takes a while to settle in usually, and for that sort of money there is a lot of settling in to do!!

One thing that I feel about this is the standard of pool that Tony plays week in week out is not as high as John.
Tony plays in the local league that I do whereas as John plays inter, county and more. Tony has been making the mistakes that you can get away with at local level, but is being punished for them here.
John 18-10 for me, but I hope it’s closer.

Apparently Tony is a snooker player from the Woolwich area and John, well, I don’t know WHO he is.
The referee has a very shiny head and looks like Homer Simpson.
Just to buck the trend, I will go for Tony to win 18-14. Neither have been that impressive so far though! Not the standard I would expect to see in a ten grand challenge, hope it improves.

Let’s hope it continues and this could be a good match! I’d like to see Tony win, but he’s still got to be the big underdog. But the more table time he deprives John of, the better. I remember watching Pat the Chat against John and he’s not good from behind* . . . (*insert your own comments here.)
Whether or not the match is on TV is irrelevant. If it were you playing for 10k, and you wanted to play slowly, you wouldn’t agree to it being on the clock, would you?

You dont get a choice in world champs about stopclock. The only reason its normally ignored is due to refs not being able to do it. And the rules state a minue. So is slow play legal?

Basically, if two people are playing a money match, they agree on the rules between them. If I play Lils, and we agree to play World Rules, but allow a skillshot and play to a 40 second clock, then that is what we’ll do.
So if John doesn;t want to play with a clock, and finds an opponent who agrees to this, then the minute rule becomes redundant.

Not arguing with that. 2 people play for money they decide on all the rules for the game. They can play any rules they like if they agree.
Just stating stopclocks are good for making pool a better spectatator sport.

I’d agree with that, and also wouldn;t play a match without a clock myself. I’d get bored to tears. However, if a player thinks he has a better chance of winning a match, especially for thousands of pounds, then he will not deliberately choose to do something that decreases his chances, for the sake of the spectators.
Example, I cannot see Ben Flack or Keith Brewer agreeing to play a money match with Chris Melling on the clock, but by the same token, Melling would be more reluctant to play either of them without one….
I personally would like at some point to play a match under a 45 second clock, with a call from the ref on 30 seconds. I think a minute is too long. Anyone who needs a minute a shot needs to play carpet bowls instead.
