9-ball Pool: Money Match TV

July 22nd, 2010

Last month we provided a live pool webcast from Vegas Bar in Wakefield. Those that follow the UK scene will know that the club is owned by GB9 Tour player Andy Appleton, he approached me about making a regular show called Money Match TV.

The first one was such a success that we are now looking into providing these live pool webcasts every month. The second in the series is this coming Saturday (24th July) when two matches will once again be on the card.

Money Matches offer a different kind pressure for the players than a regular tournament and in my opinion head-to-head matches are the essence of sporting contest. Whether this be pool, snooker, darts, athletics, cycling or any other sport. Two evenly matched opponents battling it out for a big cash stake is going to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

This weekend we open up the live event at 1pm UK time with Dave Bagg v Jamie Yates. Dave has only been playing 9-ball for around 6 months and last time out beat Simon D’Vali on the outside table. His match has been moved to the undercard on the main TV table this time around.

The headline match on Saturday will see Chun Hao Man take on new challenger Craig Dixon, this match on paper looks to be a cracker. Chun beat Jonny Copper on the outside table last time and has also been promoted to the TV table.

The headline match starts a bit earlier at 5pm UK time, last event the main match started at 7pm so should finish at a reasonable time and allow for a few drinks afterwards!

The format for all Money Match TV events is a race-to-21, winner breaks, minimum £500-per-man, the winner will ’stay-on’ and face a new challenger at the next event.

If you fancy having a go or nobody somebody that does then drop us an email.

What are your thoughts on Money Matches in general and the two matches mentioned above? Please comment below.

Another Road Trip

March 12th, 2010

It is the time of year where we once again embark on a road trip. It’s GB9 time. This year is probably the most anticipated British tour ever with the move to hotel venues and the increase in player numbers.

Top that off with 16 fantastic new tables supplied by SAM leisure, 5 of the world’s best players and you have the ingredients for something spectacular.

For the first time Cuesport TV will be able to provide a live stream of a GB9 Ball Tour event this Saturday (13th March) from 12pm UK time. It will be completely free to view and will appear on the front page when it is live.

But I didn’t really want to talk about that to be honest, one of the nicest things about the GB9 events is the craic, the players, organisers and what-not are all good to be around. It is (as ever!) a huge journey for us to undertake and due to Ange’s commitments means we cannot travel until late Friday. This is also another reason for not featuring the complete weekend, something we aim to do at future events.

This event is being held in Buxton, home of the spring water, a lovely town in the heart of the Peak District. I cannot think of a better venue for a tour stop.

You can cath up with the road trip that Ange and I make early next week, we will be producing one of our popular ‘diray-cam’ videos for your entertainment.

Anyway got to think about getting the car packed so catch up with you next week. Don’t forget the live stream at Cuesport TV from 12pm tomorrow (13th March).

The Video I Have Been Talking About

August 29th, 2009

I have been mentioning the HD videos that I produced last week quite a lot on my blog, Twitter and Facebook so I thought I would just post one on here. You can see it below but will need about 5meg of download speed.

It’s all a bit of a ploy really as I am thinking of opening up the embed codes for all of our free videos so others can use them on their own websites - what do you think?

Challenge Matches on the Horizon

August 6th, 2009

Over the next two weekends (August 8th and August 15th/16th) Cuesport TV are involved in live streaming three separate big money match ups.

Burford vs Gray - Saturday 8th August, 5pm (UK Time) - Cuesport TV

The first on August 8th features, European Junior 9-ball Champion, Phil Burford and former European number 1, Mark Gray. These two stalwarts of the British 9-ball scene go head-to-head for £1000 per man. The game is 9-ball and it will be a race-to-30, winner breaks.

The action for this event will be live over at Cuesport TV to paid up subscribers, something you can do for as little as £2.95. The action starts at 5pm with an undercard match between Andy Appleton (brother of World Number 1 Darren Appleton) and young up-and-coming player Louis Clarke. They are playing for £500 per man race-to-21 I believe and will be live also in advance of the main event.

£10,000 Scotch Doubles Challenge - Saturday 15th August, 5pm (UK time) American Pool TV

Another evening of entertainment that starts with a tasty undercard match, UK Pro players Scott Higgins and Alan Millership match up for £500-per-man. Race-to-15 9 Ball action. A good precursor for what is to come at around about 7pm.

The big match up on the cards on this particular night is an interesting one. Rarely do we see scotch doubles matches outside of the Mosconi Cup so this will be a treat.

Karl Boyes & Chris Melling take on World number 1 Darren Appleton & Imran Majid.

The Prize?

A killer £10,000 winner-take-all pot. The match is 10 ball with a race-to-35 in operation, I expect a very close match, Boyes/Melling have a 5 rack start to make it even more interesting.

This live event will be the first one shown on American Pool TV where you can buy the match in advance for £4.99 or on the night for £7.49 make sure you buy it, amazing match up.

Simon Ward v Craig Reynold’s - Sunday August 16th, 3pm (UK Time) Cuesport TV

Another match for Cuesport TV subscribers.

Simon Ward, one of the most consistent players of the 2008 season plays renowned money player and IPA professional Craig Reynol’ds for a £6,000 pot.

Played to WEPF World Rules this one will appeal to the small-ball fans throughout the UK and Europe, possibly further afield.

To watch this one a subscription is required.

£50,000 Pool Series Returns…

May 5th, 2009

PRESS RELEASE - MAY 5TH 2009:

£50,000 Pool Series Returns

The richest 8-ball pool tour on the UK and Irish calendars returns this weekend (8th-10th May) with event two of the 2008-09 CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series. This time the event is being held in the amazing Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Dublin, Ireland.

As the pinnacle of the Blackball pool game, these tournaments each carry a guaranteed £10,000 in prize money with the winner of each leg receiving £3,500. Simon Ward was the winner of event one, way back in October last year, when he defeated fellow Welshman Craig Marsh to win the top prize.

The Welsh players including former EBA World Champion Ben Davies, British Open Champion Tom Cousins as well as the aforementioned Simon Ward and Craig Marsh will be in attendance and as always will be tough to beat.

Another player looking to add to his list of titles is the 2009 EBA World Champion, Scott Ross. Scotsman, Ross lifted the World title in April this year and will be confident of gaining another accolade on the Blackball circuit.

CueSport TV will once again be showing all of the action from the final two days live and exclusive at www.CueSport.tv - it is completely free to view and to do so simply hit the Live Event link on the left hand side of the website.

Watch all of the action on the 9th and 10th May 2009 only on CueSport TV.

About Blackball:

Blackball is a fast-paced and very attacking 8-ball pool game and the CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series is the ‘pro-tour’ for Blackball players.

Blackball is the only ‘small-ball’ 8-ball game to be recognised by the World Pool Association and in turn the International Olympic Committee. Played on a 7ft x 3.5ft table with slow napped cloth, 2-inch balls and tight ‘snooker-like’ pockets. It really is a test of cueing ability and strategy.
