9-ball Circuit is Thriving

January 14th, 2009

It was a great weekend that myself and Angela had last weekend at the first GB9 event of the season. It is always great to catch up with a large number of players on the circuit that we now regard as friends.

The circuit is thriving, and once again this has been proven by the amount of players that want to play on the GB9 Tour. Lee, Shir and now Mel are held in high regard and even if there are tantrums throughout the course of a weekend the GB9 team always deal with them professionally and the players respect them for upholding the laws consistently.

There are a lot of new players this year and also a number of players for whom this season could well be an improvement on last year, I mentioned on a previous blog post what great results were achieved by Chris Cowie in beating Daryl Peach and also by David Walsh and Simon Widlo in the Pro division.

It goes to show that the highly regarded players on the tour like Drago, Appleton, Peach, Hundal, Majid and Gray will not have it all their own way this season. This is refreshing to see, in their respective interviews at the weekend both Tony Drago and Imran Majid talked about the strength in depth of UK 9-ball and that it comes from having the best cueists in the world.

The majority of our players come from a background of snooker or English 8-ball which instill in a player excellent fundamentals and potting ability.

Imran’s interview was actually very insightful and he went on to talk about how players should develop their own games in practice, and also about how he is desperate for a World title.

You can see all of the 9-ball pool videos from the GB9 Solihull Pro Cup later next week and all of the interviews and opinion from the weekend will be presented in a new show called ‘Inside GB9′ which also launches next week.
